Getting Started with Ledger Loom
Set up your accounting practice on Ledger Loom in under 15 minutes. This guide walks you through registration, onboarding, and the essential first steps.
1. Register Your Firm
Visit workspace.ledgerloom.com.au and click Register. You will need:
- Your firm name and ABN
- Your name and email address
- A secure password
After registering, you will receive a verification email. Click the link to confirm your account. Your 30-day free trial starts immediately — no credit card required.
2. Complete the Onboarding Wizard
On your first login, the onboarding wizard guides you through essential setup:
Step 1: Firm Details
Confirm your firm name, ABN, and contact details. Upload your firm logo — this appears on invoices, proposals, and the Client Portal.
Step 2: Connect Your Accounting System
Connect QuickBooks Online, Xero, or MYOB to enable automatic invoice sync. You can skip this step and connect later from Settings > Accounting Connection.

Step 3: Set Up Services
Define the services your firm offers (e.g., BAS Preparation, Tax Return, Bookkeeping). Each service has a default hourly rate used for billing. You can customise rates per client later.
Step 4: Invite Your Team
Add team members with appropriate roles. You can also do this later from Settings > Team Members.

3. Add Your First Client
Once onboarding is complete, add your first client from the Clients page. Assign services, set up entities (companies, trusts, individuals), and optionally invite the client to the Client Portal.

4. Explore Key Features
With your firm set up, explore the core features:
Task Management
Create tasks, track progress, and manage your workload.
Billing & Invoicing
Review the invoice queue and sync to your accounting system.
Client Portal
See what your clients experience in the portal.
5. Understanding Roles
Ledger Loom has three user roles with different access levels:

| Owner | Full access — settings, billing, analytics, team management | Practice principal / managing partner |
| Accountant | Tasks, clients, billing, time tracking — no settings access | Senior accountant, team lead |
| Bookkeeper | Tasks and time tracking for assigned clients only | Junior staff, bookkeeper |
Tips for a Smooth Start
- Connect your accounting system first — this unlocks automatic invoice sync and eliminates double-entry.
- Start with a small client set — add 5-10 clients initially to learn the workflow before migrating your full client base.
- Customise your branding — upload your logo in Settings > Branding so the Client Portal looks professional from day one.
- Use the 30-day trial fully — all features are available during the trial with no limitations.
